Disease Dive

Disease Dive from Da Young Moon on Vimeo.

Idea credit to Professor David (ref. Golkyknowsbest news) to turn the color of my yellow skin into brown, instead of yellow into white-which is the skin disease.

Pleasure Pain
: Future of pleasure
Etymologically, disease is combined with ‘dis,’ which means separate, asunder and ‘ease,’ which means comfort and convenience. Disease, also called as  illness, sickness, or malady, can originate from evolutionary disadvantage to virus infection. Certainly, disease is not something to be taken lightly or in entertainment because it can alter an affected person’s view on life. However, in the near future, say 2-30 years from today, the field of pathology will come up with cures for most of the diseases known to human.

Future of Pathology includes advertisement and fashion

Humans no longer become infected without themselves not-knowing. Diseases are curable, predictable, and most of all purchasable. Because cures are distributed to people without charge and covered by insurance, disease, on the other hand, becomes a commerce to be traded with high value. Sick people are in the near future the new rich people, who can afford to be sick.

Pain becomes the new pleasure in a society. In this society, people no longer suffer biologically or from serious illness. People choose to be sick or not, depending on their desire. Rich people do choose to become infected just to experience disease. This can be achieved through an injection a day. Now, people choose which disease to ‘wear’ everyday. Disease becomes fashion.

You can wear chicken-pox night gown / glow-in-the-dark suit / pregnancy make-over / lumps & mumps .co (I credit Professor Dave for this) / dyslexia dress / war scars / almost-bald etc. (NEED Classification & Visual process) Premium disease include leukemia / amnesia.

Mutation is also part of the evolution of disease as fashion. By injecting viruses, (or downloading viruses from the web-I credit Professor Dave for inspirations such as these), you can change race

Identity systems will no longer be able to select an individual from the mass. Before it became commercialized, disease enabled individuals unique in their pain, sufferings and final overcoming. Pain as pleasure made people connect with each other more than ever before. Individuals are merged with other viruses and they share the other’s feelings and pains together.

So fashionable is the new disease that designing clothes become secondary in the fashion week. It is the transformation of the skin that designers focus on.

Final Outcome is a 30pg Vanity Fair or a 49F/F Seoul Fashion Week Line-up pamphlet that features pain as fashion.

Week7 Future of Disease

Religion will not disappear in the future. They will flourish more. More people will believe in more religion and cults will spring up like Renaissance. But this means more horrible, grotesque things will happen. A negative cycle will start.
Already, people have their own religion believing in stuffs, objects. In the future, perhaps disease will be the god, the new religion because there is no drive to live any more. The revolution of pathology will have made people immortal. Without any risks, people grave for cancers and viruses. Maybe people will fight to their death to become sick once more and work their way to regain the strength to live (again).

Design for the Real World, 1984

The hot potato of design history shifted from industrial design to interaction design. Design education scene has also changed since 1933 Bauhaus by Walter Gropius. In the future, how will the schools teach design?
